Isolated environments
Use an execution environment without direct access to the PC’s disk.
What is an isolated environment?
Isolation is an optional way to run shells and tools in a Docker-compatible Linux container. It does not automatically mount PC folders, so it does not directly access the PC’s disk. You can get familiar with My PC first, then choose isolation for tasks that need it.
Prepare the environment
- In Settings under execution environments, check the detection status of your Docker-compatible engine.
- If no runtime is installed, follow the installation instructions shown and start the engine.
- Check that the isolation image and environment are ready.
- Select the isolated environment in a new session and open a regular terminal.
- Install the CLIs and tools you need directly in that terminal and sign in.
Prepare AI and files
The isolation image does not come with agents preinstalled. AIs installed on My PC and their sign-in files are not automatically copied into the container. Install tools, sign in, and prepare reference files inside the environment before starting an AI session.
| My PC | Isolated environment |
|---|---|
| Uses programs and folders on the PC | Uses programs and folders in the container |
| The PC’s current AI sign-in | Sign-in prepared inside the isolated environment |
| Bundled NVIDIA executable available on Windows | No bundled NVIDIA chip |
Isolated sessions share an environment
Multiple isolated sessions use the same container and home volume. Separate working folders alone do not create a security boundary between sessions. The container can connect to localhost services on the PC. Understand isolation as a restriction on direct access to the PC’s disk.
Replace the image with a new one
Updating orke does not automatically delete the existing container. Replace it yourself with “Download new image” and “Replace image…” in Settings. Save work you need and check running isolated sessions before replacing it. Tabs for sessions ended by replacement remain in an ended state.
When the environment is not ready
- Check that the container engine is running and can use Linux containers.
- Read errors from image downloads and environment creation.
- If an AI command cannot be found, check that you installed it inside isolation rather than on the PC.
- Use the preparation and replacement instructions in Settings before deleting the current image yourself.
